LA ESQUINA SHOPS - FIRST PHASE
Location: Calderon - Ecuador
Client: Private
Area: 3000m2
Year: 2015
La Esquina is a mixed-use project designed for a highly trafficked area located in Calderon’s commercial heart. The area is going through a transition time, through which it is no longer considered a peripheral city that depends on Quito, which is 45 minutes away. The rapid commercial growth has created opportunities for new business, meaning that many activities can now occur independently of the major city. The client recognized this opportunity, and during the design process, we established a program that combines commercial shops with residential units. The project will be developed in 2 phases.
COMMERCE AND PUBLIC SPACE
The main idea of the project was to create two simple volumes facing the main street. A transition space was implemented between the volumes and the sidewalk, creating a public space where people can transit and observe all shops. This space also becomes the front porch/entry point to all shops.
